Nk’Mip Cellars is North America’s first aboriginal owned and operated winery, inspired to express the culture in every aspect of the winemaking process. Nk’Mip Cellars is about telling the story of what can happen when terroir, viticulture, and inspired partnership come together. It’s a tale that begins with the region’s indigenous people – the NK’Mip (of the Osoyoos Indian Band) – known as strong, independent, and proud, with a rich heritage as the stewards of this exotic desert scape. Led by Chief Clarence Louie, the vision of creating a prosperous and harmonious venture to support and grow their community amidst the sprawling desert lands has been well set in motion.
The winery and vineyards are situated on a spectacular bench land in Canada’s only pocket desert. The interesting and unusual growing conditions at Nk’Mip Cellars allow a diverse variety of grapes to grow and thrive. There aren’t many places in the world where world class Syrah and Rieslings can grow side by side.
Nk’Mip Cellars is a magical experience for visitors and invites guests to explore local heritage as well as a commitment to making premium quality VQA wines. The tasting room and wine shop are open year round and features daily tours and experiences. Seasonally, the Patio Restaurant offers bistro dining in a picturesque location, with fresh farm-to-table innovations using traditional aboriginal techniques.
Wine-tasting bar is on a first come, first served basis. Reservations recommended for the Tours and the Perfect Union Wine and Cheese Tour and can be made online or by calling 250-495-2985
